Turnkey sample ProjectPlanning

ProjectPlanning is a MDriven Turnkey sample for people who want to use a generic project-planning starting point and adapt it to a business-specific application.

Use ProjectPlanning as a starting point

ProjectPlanning is an example Gist: a reusable model and data starting point that you can apply to a Turnkey site and then change for your own purpose. Review the sample's simple use cases, identify the parts that match the problem you want to solve, and evolve the model into your own application.

For example, you might use the sample as the initial basis for a system that supports a particular organisation's planning process. Rather than treating the sample as a finished product, you can adapt its model, rules, actions, and views to reflect that organisation's information and workflow.

Get started

  1. Sign in to the MDriven portal and request a demo site.
  2. Open the available samples for that site and select the ProjectPlanning sample.
  3. Apply the sample to the site.
  4. Fork the example and make your own changes in MDriven Designer.
  5. Test the changed application on your Turnkey site and continue refining it as the requirements develop.

Documentation:Example Gist describes the general process for requesting a demo site and applying a sample. If you are starting without a planning-oriented example, use the empty start model instead.

Adapt the sample to your domain

A fork gives you a version that you control. Use it to represent the information, actions, rules, and views required by your intended users.

Area to consider Question to answer Example of an adaptation
Information What planning information must the application hold? Add the information needed to describe the work your organisation plans.
Workflow Which actions and rules govern the planning process? Change the available actions so that they match the way your users progress work.
User interface Which views help users work with the planning information? Adjust the views so that users can find and update the information relevant to their role.

The result is your application model, not a shared copy of the original sample. MDriven Turnkey supports evolving the model and merging model updates into production.

Choose the right related sample

Do not confuse this sample with ProjectPlanner. ProjectPlanner is documented as a sample that demonstrates many HTML5 components and advanced features. Use that page when your goal is to examine those components and features.

For experiments with HTML5 component development in Turnkey, see Board Map Balls Gantt. For a focused interactive sample, see InstantPoll.

Continue developing in Turnkey

Develop the application's information, actions, rules, and views in MDriven Designer, then use Turnkey to run and refine the application. The MDriven Turnkey Series provides broader guidance on developing and maintaining Turnkey applications.
