New site request to host app at MDriven

You can request an MDriven-hosted Turnkey site from the MDriven portal when you want server space for a new application without setting up your own Azure hosting.

Before you begin

Use this procedure when MDriven is to host the application. If you already have an Azure account and want to host the application yourself, follow Set up new Turnkey site and Install MDriven Server and Turnkey on Microsoft Azure instead.

You need:

  • An MDriven account that you can use to sign in to the MDriven portal.
  • The latest MDriven Designer, if you want to create and manage the request through its CloudForm window.

A creation request reserves and creates the hosted site. MDriven then deploys the Turnkey software to that site.

Request a new hosted site

  1. Open the MDriven portal at portal.mdriven.net and sign in.
  2. Go to My Apps.
  3. Select New site request. The Existing Creation Requests page opens.
  4. Select Add Creation Request.
  5. Enter an application name, for example MyNewApp.
  6. Select Save.

MDriven registers the requested name in Azure and creates the site. If the requested name is already unavailable, MDriven appends a number to make the name unique. For example, a request for MyNewApp may receive a name with a numeric suffix.

Track creation and deployment

After you save the request, the service creates the site and deploys Turnkey. This normally takes up to five minutes. You can leave the page and return to check the request state.

Status area Expected progression Meaning
Creation State AvailableForCreationNode → CreationNodeWorking → CreationSuccess The hosted site is being created, then has been created successfully.
Site state Deploying → Deployed Turnkey is being deployed, then is ready to use.

Do not select the site as a work site until its site state is Deployed.

Select the site in MDriven Designer

When deployment is complete:

  1. Return to the portal home or select Back to home or login.
  2. Open MDriven Designer and open the CloudForm window.
  3. Sign in if prompted.
  4. Select the newly deployed site as your work site.
  5. Use the available site actions to open the application in an external browser, check server status, or download and upload the model.

The new Turnkey application starts with authorization services and an otherwise empty model. You can begin modeling in MDriven Designer and upload your model to the selected site. For example, after you create a class and its attributes, create the required user interface forms, then upload the model; Turnkey can create the database structures required by the uploaded model.

You can also apply an available example to a site instead of starting with an empty model. Applying an example replaces the model currently on that site. Download the model first if you need to keep your current work.

Publishing profiles and self-hosted sites

You do not upload a publishing profile when requesting an MDriven-hosted site through this page. A publishing profile is used when you register and deploy a Turnkey site on your own Azure account. For that workflow, see HowTos:Install MDriven Server and Turnkey on Microsoft Azure.
